TAX LAW
We represent businesses and individuals in both civil and criminal tax matters in the state and federal forums. This includes income tax matters, sales tax matters, estate tax matters, the negotiation of installment payment agreements, the preparation of offers and compromises, and all other tax related problems. We also provide tax advice to our clients on an ongoing basis and advise on how all commercial transactions should be structured for the best tax consequences.
RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE
Members of the firm handle a wide variety of real estate transactions, from the sale or purchase of a one-family residence to the acquisition or disposition of large residential and commercial parcels. When acquiring a business, we also provide advice concerning the proper entity to purchase the real estate, the creation of a separate entity to operate the business from that real estate, and the tax consequences of the transaction.
MATRIMONIAL & FAMILY LAW
We represent individuals in both contested and uncontested divorces, separations, and annulments, as well as in adoption and guardianship petitions. The firm also handles post-judgment problems such as custody, visitation and child support matters.
CRIMINAL
The firm includes two former assistant district attorneys, one of whom was the Chief of the Suffolk County Rackets Bureau for a period of three years and served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. We handle all matters, from representation in local traffic courts and relatively minor criminal offenses, to the most serious felonies and white-collar crimes on both the state and federal level.
LABOR LAW
The firm was general counsel to a major public sector labor union for seven years, and is currently representing a number of smaller labor organizations. Representation includes both the negotiation and administration of its collective bargaining agreements, disciplinary proceedings, grievance arbitration, and its general and corporate litigation matters.
ESTATE PLANNING & ADMINISTRATION
The firm handles all phases of estate administration, including the probate and administration of estates, the filing of federal and state estate tax and fiduciary income tax returns, the transferring of assets from decedents to heirs, and the creation and administration of both revocable and irrevocable inter vivos (living) and testamentary (after death) trusts. We are also experienced in estate litigation.
WILLS & TRUSTS
The firm prepares and advises on all types of wills, from a simple will between a husband and wife, to complicated wills and estate plans drafted to minimize the tax on assets passed down to the next generation. We also prepare and advise on “Living Trusts” designed to avoid the probate process.
ELDER LAW
The firm has knowledge and understanding of all aspects of problems currently faced by senior citizens, including Medicaid eligibility problems, lifetime transfers of property and reverse mortages.
EMPLOYMENT LAW
Our firm handles all aspects of Employment and Labor litigation, from contract drafting to representation before the Equal Employment Opportunity commision and the New York State Division fo Human Rights on claims such as sexual harassment, employment discrimination and wrongful discharge.
